We Don't Know How To Play For A Draw!
On-loan Kenny Lunt is used to anxious last day finales more than most here at Crewe Alexandra. During his first spell at Gresty Road, the Runcorn-born midfielder experienced 'great escapes' from the Coca-Cola Championship, actual relegations and a promotion. He knows how to handle the occasion and stresses that it is never too wise to rely on other clubs to do you a favour!
Here on loan from Sheffield Wednesday, Lunt has told the club's official web-site that it is imperative that we can only concentrate on ourselves and make sure we obtain the result we need to be certain of survival.
He will be doing his level best to blank out results from elsewhere with Cheltenham and Bournemouth needing a win to stand any chance of leapfrogging us in the table.
Kenny told crewealex.net: "I don't think we can go out there on Saturday and play for a draw. We will be going out there to play our natural game and try to attack and win the game.
"If we can play as well as we can then there is no reason why we cannot win the game and make ourselves safe. It is not ideal having to rely on other clubs doing us a favour and that is how we have got to approach it.
"I can never understand when people say 'they have nothing to play for' because footballers always go here to do as well as they can for themselves, for the club and the fans who come to support us. Everyone wants to win and it's our job to perform to the best of our ability in every game.
"They do not have too much pressure on them which could work to their advantage. There is a pressure on us and in certain games recently we have stood up to that well and handled it.
He added: "The ideal scenario would be for us to be 2-0 up and the crowd start cheering because Doncaster or Carlisle are 2-0 up! Of course, that would be nice but we have to blank out news from elsewhere as much as we can and concentrate on ourselves."
