Club captain Neil Cox certainly knows all about the FA Cup having helped one of his former clubs Middlesbrough reach the final in 1997. Cox played in the club's semi-final win over a spirited Chesterfield but was left of the side, which eventually lost 2-0 to Chelsea.

Cox also helped Watford reach the last four in 2003 but they lost 2-1 in the semi-final showdown with Southampton.

Although Cox came come as close as you possible can without actually lifting the trophy, he knows what a good run in the FA Cup can do too boost morale inside any club.

The Alex skipper will now be hoping to help Crewe overcome a tricky encounter at Oldham and progress into round three of the competition, when all the Premiership and Championship clubs enter.

In the build up to our Cup tie at Boundary Park, Cox told Crewe Alex World: "This is the game everyone wants to win to get through to the third round and hopefully get a decent draw.

"The FA Cup is obviously special, to be part of a club that has got to the final, it's obviously a good experience. There is going to be no giant killing, which is no pressure for both teams really, but whoever comes through will be looking forward to the draw on Sunday.

"This is an important time, its when most clubs have a look to see who they are playing, it's the third round next and everyone wants to be drawn against one of the big teams, especially away so they can go to Old Trafford or Anfield. It will be nice to do that, but we have a job to do tomorrow, we have to put a performance in."
