Baseya Cannot Wait For Opportunity
The towering Cedric Baseya is hoping to mark his first-team debut in English tomorrow after completing his loan move from Coca-Cola Championship side Southampton. Baseya has been in good form for Southampton reserves this season, scoring five goals in five games, which included a spectacular over head kick in their relatively comfortable 5-1 win over Millwall in mid-week. Crewe Alexandra's Assistant Manager Neil Baker was suitably impressed and the deal has been completed in time so that Baseya is available for selection for tomorrow's home game with Northampton Town.
If he gets the nod to start from first-team coach Steve Holland and that look increasingly likely with Simon Church on International duty, then Baseya cannot wait for his opportunity.
After completing his one-month deal, the 19-year-old told Crewe Alex World: "I've never played first team football before so this is a great opportunity for me. I spoke with my manager at Southampton George Burley and he said that I could go to Crewe on loan.
"George is a very good manager and he has always looked after me. There are a few strikers ahead of me at Southampton, who have more experience, so the manager told me to go out and get some more experience. I want to do that at Crewe and then go back to Southampton and fight for a place again.
"Crewe are a good team. They are in League One and used to be the Championship a few years ago. They are very good in producing young players, so I knew Crewe was the best place for me to go. I had other teams who wanted me, but I thought I would learn more at Crewe because of their coaching of young players.
"I'm very excited about the chance to play in the first-team, in front of more fans. I have scored a few goals for the reserves this season and I just want to keep on doing that at Crewe. I will do my best and hopefully I will get a chance to show the fans what I can do tomorrow."
There is lot more from Cedric available on Crewe Alex World. Why not join up now on a trial basis or treat yourself to a Christmas gift. Click here for more details.
