Derby Win Was For The Fans
Match winner Elliott Bennett was full of praise for his team-mates after containing Port Vale for large periods last night. Super sub Bennett converted a pass from Byron Moore to sent the travelling Alex fans into raptures and although the 18-year-old is currently on emergency loan from Wolves, he fully understands what a derby win means to fans…
After hitting the winner Elliott told Crewe Alex World: "Everyone is ecstatic, it was a derby game that everyone always wants to win, for the fans more than anything. But a game is a game, we've got three points and we're moving up the League.
I just wanted to just get on and show everyone what I can do. I wasn't too disappointed that I didn't start, Steve (Holland) makes the choices for the right reasons, he felt that Julien (Baudet) should have played and it worked for the benefit of the team."
On his first senior goal in the colours of Crewe, Elliott told us: "Byron has picked the ball up, you know how Byron does his running, and I've just tried to catch up with him because he's pretty quick isn't he, he's then found me inside, I took a little touch and just hit and hope.
"I took my first touch, hit the ball quite sweetly and the ball has just gone past the bodies and gone in and then after that…the feeling is just unbelievable."
