A versatile player who is always eager to stick his head or his foot in. Mat signed for the Alex in June 2009 from Blue Square Premier side Histon following Crewe's other summer signing Patrick Ada.
Mat began his career with his hometown club, playing for both Cambridge City and Cambridge United before moving to Mildenhall Town and ultimately being spotted by Histon. Was Captain of his former club during the 2008/2009, captaining them against Leeds United in the FA Cup and to the play offs where they narrowly lost out on promotion to the Football League.
Gudjon kept a close eye on the defender, who can also play in midfield, and snapped him up on a free transfer. Mat had offers from other clubs prior to joining Crewe Alexandra, but knowing the reputation of the Alex elected to join us to progress his career. He was known as one of the finest centre halves in the lower leagues, and was one of Histon's most consistent performers during his time there.
