Steven began his career at Everton but had to leave Goodison in search of regular first-team action. After brief loan spells at Carlisle and Oldham, he joined Bradford City on a permanent basis in 2004 on a free transfer. He went on to make 130 appearances during his time in Yorkshire, scoring a commendable 15 goals from his midfield position.

Although, the midfielder prides himself on scoring goals, injuries hindered his chances in his first season with the Alex but not before he scored the club's Goal of The Season against Swindon in September with a stunning volley. An ankle injury sustained in October kept him sidelined until January when he returned to make a regular spot in midfield his own.

His second wasn't much better, for after starting the season in the side, another injury, this time to his knee, which required surgery meant he had another season in and out of the side. Scored three goals in 19 appearances last year, including a last minute equaliser against Walsall. Hopes to put his injury problems behind him now and become a regular in the Alex midfield.
