George signed for Crewe Alexandra in the summer of 2007 after impressing during a trial spell after being released by local rivals Port Vale. The former Nigerian International had featured for Macclesfield Town in previous years and is a strong defender who began his career playing for Sharks FC in Nigeria when he was 20. Abbey scored against Crewe for Vale at Gresty Road in the League game in November 2006 giving them the equaliser before Crewe went on to win the game 2-1.
During the 2007/2008 season, George was called upon in various positions, as he featured at right-back and centre half and impressed in both positions.
