What The Papers Said

The Sentinel

CREWE'S winning run came to an end after defensive duo Dave Artell and Adam Dudale saw red at Underhill.

Nine-man Alex battled bravely to limit Barnet to the slender lead they earned from Izale McLeod' penalty coversion (30) after the striker had been upended by Artell.

But young Reading loanee Michael Hector eventually sealed victory for the Bees when he struck 13 minutes from time.

The Sun

BARNET'S fourth straight league win has started talk of an unlikely play-off push.
Izale McLeod's penalty and Michael Hector's first goal for the club saw off nine-man Crewe and lifted the Bees 10 points clear of the drop zone.

They remain 11 points off the top seven but defender Hector, on loan from Reading, said: "Messing about in the changing rooms everyone has been joking about the play-offs — but we're not too far away.

"A few games ago it was just a bit of banter but now we're starting to take it a little bit more seriously."

Barnet boss Lawrie Sanchez, however, was well aware this win owed everything to the two red cards after Crewe had bossed the early stages. But on the half-hour McLeod raced on to Sam Deering's through ball only to fall under David Artell's desperate lunge. Ref Darren Sheldrake had no option but to give a penalty and a red card.

Then, just before half-time, Adam Dugdale was dismissed for a reckless challenge on Ricky Holmes. Yet it took Barnet until the 77th minute to make the points safe as the outstanding Hector slammed in Holmes' cross at the far post.

Crewe midfielder Ashley Westwood said: "We're a young side and we'll learn from this. Maybe the second red card was a bit harsh but the ref has to make a decision and we won't argue. We've had a brilliant run and this is a little blip."

The Daily Star

MICHAEL HECTOR reckons Barnet's four-match winning run is a sign that they can book a double date at Wembley this season.

The Bees may only be 17th in League Two - but Hector believes they have the momentum to make the play-offs. And they could secure a Wembley trip much sooner if they can beat Swindon a week tomorrow to reach the Johnstone's Paint Trophy final.

Hector, 19, sealed Barnet's fourth straight league victory as they saw off nine-man Crewe.
Crewe, meanwhile, were left to reflect on a costly lack of discipline.

"We lost the game in the first half-hour - the sending off and the penalty killed us," admitted midfielder Ashley Westwood.

"But we're young lads and we have to learn from that and move on. We've been on a brilliant run before this and hopefully we can get over this blip in the next match."

Barnet Times

Barnet made it four league wins on the bounce after overcoming nine man Crewe Alexandra 2-0.

In an eventful first half David Artell was dismissed for a foul on Izale Mcleod who scored the resulting penalty.

Then the visitor's numbers were further reduced after Adam Dugdale was sent off for a foul on Ricky Holmes just before the break.

The Bees struggled to kill the game off in the second period but a volley from Michael Hector 15 minutes from time ensured the victory.
