Robins boss Mark Yates hailed striker Justin Richards after his double strike edged his side a step nearer to safety.

Substitute Carl Martin hooked home a last-minute strike for Crewe, whose boss Dario Gradi said: "We huffed and puffed up front."

Cheltenham manager Mark Yates hailed striker Justin Richards as his brace helped ease their relegation fears.

Crewe shot themselves in the foot when Daniel O'Donnell pulled Shane Duff in the box. Carl Martin prodded home for Crewe to make it a nervy finish.

Crewe sunk to their tenth home defeat of the campaign in abysmal fashion against relegation-threatened Cheltenham. They fell behind before the break when Justin Richards drove home a clinical finish.

And the Cheltenham frontman made it 12 for the season when he scored a second-half penalty to grab his second of the game to the disgust of a meagre, but restless home faithful.

The Alex were wretched throughout and seemed barely capable of mustering a threat on Scott Brown's goal until the closing minutes when the game was dead. Substitute Carl Martin poked in a last-minute goal ahead of four minutes of added time, but Crewe didn't deserve a point.
