Second half goals from Adebayo Akinfenwa and Abdul Osman earned Northampton their first away win of the season and boss Stuart Gray immediately set his sights on improving his side's form at Sixfields.

Crewe's Tom Pope had cancelled out Danny Jackman's first half opener, but Akinfenwa netted from the spot before Osman wrapped things up.

Pint-sized Danny Jackman admitted the birth of his daughter has stopped him hitting the heights he set last season. The Cobblers' Player-of-the-Year had been dropped by boss Stuart Gray. But the 5ft 4in midfielder marked his return to first-team duty by curling home a superb 25-yard free-kick.

Stuart Gray, the Northampton Town manager, was pleased by the way his team dominated proceedings at Gresty Road to chalk up their second league win of the season. Tom Pope had cancelled out Danny Jackman's opener but Adebayo Akinfenwa scored his 7th goal of the season from the spot before Abdul Osman wrapped things up.

"We controlled the game for 80 minutes and I was always confident we would go on to win." Gray said. Steve Holland, the Crewe coach said: "The manner that we conceded the goals was very poor."

Crewe put in a woeful showing as they sunk to their third home defeat of the campaign.

Danny Jackman's stunning free kick earned Stuart Gray's side the lead on the stroke of half-time, and although Tom Pope hit back with an equaliser after the break, it was brief relief.

Adebayo Akinfenwa sunk a generous penalty award to restore the Cobblers' lead before former Alex triallist Abdul Osman headed in their third.

Giant centre-half Dennis Lawrence made his Alex debut after joining on loan from Swansea.
