Ashton Hoping For Another Chance
Dean Ashton is hoping he will get another chance to impress England coach Fabio Capello following his long overdue debut against Trinidad and Tobago. The former Crewe Alexandra striker played out the first 45 minutes in Sunday evening's 3-0 win in the Port of Spain before being replaced at the interval by Peter Crouch.
Following his first senior performance for the national side, Ashton has been harshly criticised in the newspapers with one already comparing his International career to that of the former Bolton striker Michael Ricketts.
Ashton may not have got onto the scoresheet on the night but his overall game and link-up play was decent enough on a hard and bumpy pitch.
After the convincing win, Ashton said: "It would have been nice to have scored but it wasn't to be, but hopefully I have done enough to impress and get into the next squad.
"I was pleased with how it went and happy to get 45 minutes. There were a few touched that could have gone better but that's being over-critical."
