Former Crewe Alexandra fans favourite Justin Cochrane has signed for League One rivals Rotherham United following his release from Gresty Road.

The 24-year-old midfielder has penned a two-year deal with the Millers having interested a number of clubs over the summer having being told his contract with the Railwaymen would not be renewed.

Cochrane, who began his career at Queens Park Rangers, signed for the Alex from Hayes in 2003 for a small fee, made 77 appearances for the Alex, but struggled to hold a first team place over the past season due to the emergence of youngsters such as Billy Jones and Gary Roberts.

However Justin, a firm favourite with the Alex fans due to his whole hearted midfield displays, spent a spell on loan with Gillingham towards the end of last season and impressed in trial stints with both Luton and Yeovil Town.

Cochrane now joins the Millers, who will start next season on -10 points after falling into administration, and should feature against the Alex when the two teams meet on Saturday 28 October at Millmoor and at Gresty Road on Saturday 24 March.

He also teams up with former Alex man Colin Murdock and joins manager Alan Knill's fellow new signings Ian Sharps, Delroy Facey, Richie Partridge and Scott Wiseman in the Millers squad.
