Crewe Alexandra Football Club are proud to announce that nine of our Academy players have been offered professional contracts as their scholarships come to an end.
Academy Directyor Steve Holland, manager Dario Gradi and the rest of the coaching staff have been making some difficult decisions on the clubs second and third year scholars over the past few weeks and opted to offer nine of the 14 players, who were coming to the end of their scholarships, professional terms for next season.
The number of professional deals is the highest since 2001, when 12 young players, including Dean Ashton, David Vaughan, Lee Bell, Ben Rix and Michael Higdon, were offered pro deals, and the second highest in the clubs history as an Academy.
The nine youngsters have been rewarded for their endevours over the past few seasons, and for the progress they have made as footballers. They will now be looking to force their way into Dario Gradi's first team plans as the Alex look to bounce back following relegation to League One this season.
Of the nine only goalkeeper Owain fon Williams has been involved with the first team so far. The 19 year old, who was this week selected for the Wales Under-21 squad, only to miss out through injury, has been named on the bench for Dario's side this season and becomes the clubs third professional goalkeeper behind Ben Williams and Stuart Tomlinson.
Fellow Third Years Cavell Coo (defender / midfielder - pictured), Mark Carrington (midfielder) and Adam Warlow (forward) have also been offered terms along with Second Year Scholars John Dillon (midfielder), Adam Dugdale (defender), Christopher Flynn (midfielder), Nathaniel Kerr (defender) and Shaun Miller (forward).
Unfortunately the club have decided not to offer professional terms to defenders Alastair Brown and Lewis Callaghan, midfielder Lee Mannion and forwards Triston Hamilton-Hendricks and Anthony Marshall, who will all now leave Gresty Road. Meanwhile First Year Scholar Grant Carson has decided to leave the club after quitting his scholarship.
All six players leave Crewe Alexandra with our very best wishes for the future, and our thanks for their contribution during their stay with the club.
