Dario Wary Of Stevenage Threat

Posted on: Fri 03 Sep 2010

Dario Gradi says his side will be wary of Stevenage's aerial threat this weekend but says that the improvement in our own set-plays could spring our own surprise. Crewe have attained some joy from set-plays and corners this season with centre-halves Patrick Ada and David Artell already on target in the opening games of the season.

The coaching staff have worked on our own set-plays and corners and Dario has been conscious of adding some extra height to his team since succeeding Gudjon Thordarson as manager. Dario will recall Calvin Zola tomorrow for extra height in both boxes and Mat Mitchel-King will deputise at right-back as well.

Ahead of the game, Dario told us: "We have seen Stevenage play this season and they are a good side. They are a big, powerful side who are a threat from set-plays but they also try and play some football as well.

"They have come up from the Conference and that will give them confidence because they have been used to winning games.

"We know we will have to defend well against their set-plays and we have done work out of the training ground to cope with that.

"Saying that we have had some joy from our set-pieces this season. We were threat last weekend at Lincoln with the ball bouncing around in their box a few times, so that work looks to be paying off.

"I don't particularly like a game to be decided by set-pieces but if that is the case then so be it."
