Mat Mitchel-King will start his first game of the season at Lincoln City tomorrow due to the absence of Matt Tootle. Mat Mitchel-King replaced the teenage right-back in Tuesday's extra-time defeat to Ipswich Town and with Carl Martin also ruled out with injury (shin), the door has re-opened for the former Histon defender.
Mat Mitchel-King has already shown his versatility since arriving at Crewe last summer. He has already played in midfield, at his preferred centre-back position and now right-back.
Dario Gradi has told the club's official web-site that the defender won't be fazed by his recall or being asked to play in a different position.
Dario told crewealex.net: "We will give Mat a go at right-back because he is well equipped to play there. He is a defender first and foremost and he certainly won't be fazed by it. He is a man not a boy and he certainly won't let us down.
"When I first took over Mat was my captain and now he has found himself out of the team. To his credit he has kept himself going and his attitude has been excellent. We threw him back in at the deep end a bit on Tuesday, but he coped with it very well.
"I could play Ashley Westwood there, and he would have no problem playing at right-back, but I don't want too. I want him to stay in midfield.
"Mat will be pleased he is playing again and he will happy to do it and he will make the right decisions."
