Roy Keane, the manager of Ipswich Town, was very complimentary about the way Crewe Alexandra gave his Championship side a real game in the Carling Cup. The Tractor Boys needed an extra-time winner from their skipper David Norris to edge past a spirited Crewe in round two and Keane admits his side were taken right to wire to make sure they were in Saturday's draw.
After his side's 1-0 Keane admitted: "I am happy with the victory and the clean-sheet. We have not played as well as we have over the last few weeks but Crewe made it tough for us.
"Everyone knows that in the cup it can be tough going and it is about winning the game and getting through to the next round.
"It was a very good finish from David (Norris) to win the game. It was a real captain's performance from him and although we could have done without extra-time, I'm pleased to get through."
On the Alex, the former Manchester United captain told us: "I thought Crewe were very very good and credit to them. They were physically very good and had a lot of pace in the team especially in attacking positions.
"Everyone refers to Crewe to being neat and tidy but I tell you what they can be physical too. They worked hard and put some tackles in and it was tough going. I am just glad to get through to the next round."
