Zola Not Going To Make Cup Tie

Posted on: Mon 23 Aug 2010

Calvin Zola won't be fit enough to face Ipswich Town in the Carling Cup 2nd round. The Congolese striker who opened his account for the season in the 3-2 defeat at Cheltenham missed Saturday's emphatic 7-0 win over Barnet after twisting his knee earlier in the week at training.

Joel Grant replaced Zola and was one of the goalscorers as the Railwaymen collected their first league points of the season in style.

Zola is now running again in the gym and looks likely to return to training ahead of the weekend trip to Lincoln City.

Dario Gradi has told the club's official web-site that he is unlikely to make any changes following the Barnet win.

Dario told the club's official web-site: "We have virtually everyone fit expect Carl Martin, Steve Phillips and Calvin Zola. Zola is progressing but the game tomorrow night may have come a bit early for him.

"I don't think I will be making any changes to the team after Saturday. It is not often you have a result like that and if I was to leave anybody out after a 7-0 win, I would expect them to be knocking on my door. I would."

Crewe Alexandra will be without youngster Nick Powell for the visit of the Tractor Boys tomorrow night as he is away on international duty with the England Under-17 squad.
