Crewe To Assess Tootle Dead Leg

Posted on: Wed 10 Mar 2010

Crewe Alexandra will assess the injury that forced Matt Tootle to leave the field last night before deciding if the Academy graduate will be fit enough to travel to Torquay United on Friday. Tootle suffered a dead leg in the build-up to Grimsby Town second equaliser and had to be replaced by Carl Martin in the 4-2 win over the Mariners.

Martin performed admirably in the left back role but blotted his copybook with his first ever red card after catching Michael Leary with a high lunge. Martin now faces a three-match ban for violent conduct and with former captain Billy Jones not in the picture, Dario Gradi could be forced to move Ashley Westwood back to left back.

It would be something he would be reluctant to do after Westwood's influential performances in central midfield and on the right. Westwood was again named man-of-the-match last night, scoring the third goal in a deserved win.

Crewe will be hoping that Tootle can shake off his dead leg to declare himself fit to travel to the South Coast this weekend.
