Dario Gradi will give Calvin Zola today's final training session to prove that he is fit enough to be considered for selected for the visit of Grimsby Town tomorrow evening. Zola is currently the club's leading goalscorer having netted 16 times this season and that total included two at Blundell Park earlier in the season when Crewe enjoyed a 4-0 win.
Zola was expected to be back for Saturday's match with Barnet but went over on his ankle during training in the week and was unable to train. The Congolese striker had previously missed a couple of weeks after suffering a hamstring pull at Rochdale.
If the Alex number 10 can declare himself fit, it is likely he will only be named on the bench following Donaldson's double against Barnet at the weekend.
Dario told crewealex.net: "We will have to see how Zola is today. He trained over the weekend and we will see how he gets on today. He could be an option for us.
"If the physio's say he is okay then we will see how Calvin feels about it. Saying that the front two did well on Saturday and Clayton is in the side because Zola is injured if you like.
"He scored both goals and was lively. His first goal was excellent. It was a really calm finish and whatever level you play out, you would look at it and say it is a really good goal."
