Gudjon On Prosposed Occy Move
Crewe Alexandra boss Gudjon Thordarson says a move to the Coca-Cola Championship would be a good one for Michael O'Connor. The Northern Ireland International is travelling north today to discuss personal terms with Scunthorpe United after the two clubs agreed on a fee. If O'Connor agrees terms and passes a routine medical then Crewe Alexandra would receive an undisclosed fee upfront followed by more based on appearances.
Thordarson had contemplated giving O'Connor another chance to prove his potential after loaning him out to Lincoln City at the tail end of last season. The Icelandic coach was prepared to give him a chance over the pre-season and possibly select him again for a midfield role. With O'Connor expressing a desire to further his career, Crewe have decided to accept the money on offer for a player who is entering the final year of his contract.
Gudjon told the club's official web-site: "We have agreed a deal with Scunthorpe and they have permission to speak to him today. It is an undisclosed fee at this stage and some of the deal is made up based on appearances. I think it is good business for the club because Michael has made it known that he wishes to go and I can fully understand his decision when a Championship club has come in for him.
"It will be a good challenge for him and Michael wanted to test himself at that level again. We will see how he copes with it and where his career takes him and I hope he does well there. He goes with our best wishes and it is a positive move for him if everything is sorted.
"It will be a massive change for him and an important move for him at this stage of his career."
