The former Histon captain Mat Mitchel-King has become Crewe Alexandra's second summer signing after he passed a routine medical late this afternoon. The 25-year-old defender, who can also operate in a holding role in midfield has signed a two-year deal ahead of the new season and joins fellow Histon team-mate Patrick Ada at the club.

Mitchel-King did have other offers on the table but elected to sign for Crewe are meeting manager Gudjon Thordarson and his new assistant manager Steve Davis for talks last week. The Cambridge-born defender has also played for Cambridge City, Cambridge United and Mildenhall Town.

The deal is subject to confirmation from the Football Association and Football League.
