Despite the defensive errors in the game with Southend United last weekend, Steve does admit that his two centre-backs played arguably their best game so far for Crewe at Anfield on Tuesday night, and although he is keeping the faith in his own players he still wants that same competition across the back four as he has in other positions to push the higher standard of play week in and week out.

Mistakes cost us last weekend, but just days later the same back four raised their game and performed at their best, and proving to Steve Holland, and everyone else in the process, that they can play at a high standard, they just need to have that consistancy.

Steve says: "Danny O'Donnell played his best game for Crewe I think on Tuesday, and Julien Baudet was immaculate. It is frustrating that they can play like that but then play completely different another week. I was pleased with them on Tuesday but I want to have the same pressure at the back as I have at the front.

"We paid a heavy price last Saturday for some mistakes, but we will not lose faith in our defenders, at times they have shown exactly what they are capable of.
