Holland Has Belief In Anfield Upset
Steve Holland has told the club's official website that he believes his side can cause one of the biggest upsets in League Cup history by giving Liverpool a real game at Anfield tomorrow evening. Crewe have already beaten Championship opposition in the competition so far, and although it is a daunting task facing any Liverpool side in front of the world famous Kop, Holland doesn't want anyone boarding the team coach who doesn't believe they can pull off a memorable result.
Holland has already taken the entire squad to Anfield to have a look around the place, so the players won't be experiencing their unfamiliar surroundings for the first time tomorrow night.
Although it is going to be a great occasion for everyone associated with the club, the Alex are going there to try and win the game. It is a positive attitude to have and in Cup football anything can happen, as Barnsley proved last season by winning 2-1 at Anfield in the FA Cup.
Steve told crewealex.net: "When the draw was made there were probably one or two teams we fancied getting at home, so we could progress into round four. If we didn't get one of those then the next best thing is to get a Premiership team away. They don't come too much bigger than Liverpool and I'm sure for a few of our players this will be the biggest game in their entire careers.
"Others could play in bigger games over time, but for some members of my team, this is the game they will always remember when they have long retired. Let us hope they have more good memories than not by putting on a good performance.
"Our objective hasn't changed because we are playing Liverpool. We want to go as far as we can. We know that facing any Liverpool side is going to be extremely difficult because they have fantastic players but we will go there with belief.
"We have a great opportunity to cover ourselves in real glory and make a name for ourselves. Liverpool won't want to lose at home to Crewe, and will be looking to progress as much as we do, but we want to go there and win a football match.
He added: "There is absolutely no point them getting onto the bus if they don't have that belief. It is a great chance for our players to cause an upset and let's see if they can take it."
