Steve Holland says his side will have to fully 'wash out' Saturday's 4-3 defeat to Southend United before our intentions switch to Liverpool tomorrow evening. The club's first team coach was left annoyed and frustrated as Anthony Grant nodded an 88th minute for the Shrimpers to put his side back into the bottom four.

Of course, a trip to Anfield doesn't come around too often and everyone connected with Crewe Alexandra will be looking forward to our Carling Cup tie - but first Holland will once again go over the DVD and most importantly the 'poor' goals we conceded.

Steve told crewealex.net: "We won't be totally different to Saturday, but we will have to defend a lot better, because whoever Liverpool put out against us, they will be quality players. It is difficult to predict their team but I've counted there are 18 Internationals who didn't play for them on Saturday alone!

"We will certainly have to concentrate a lot better than we did on Saturday, because we conceded four poor goals. Defending doesn't really come into it. They were mistakes and we will have to wash that out of the system before we can move forward.

"I'm sure everyone is looking forward to playing Liverpool but we cannot afford to make mistakes against opposition like that. I don't think we are that far off being a decent team. Attacking wise we were fine on Saturday, we have scored three goals at home, hit the post twice and the keeper has made an unbelievable save from Byron Moore with his legs.

He added: "There are a lot of positives we can take from our performances thus far, but the defending has got to improve because we won't pick up points conceding goals like we did."
