Southend United boss Steve Tilson was pleased that his side emerged victorious following a seven-goal thriller at the Alexandra Stadium. Tilson's Shrimpers scored an 88th minute winner to grab all three points after Crewe had gallantly fought back from 2-0 down to lead 3-2.

Tilson was delighted with his own side's own character as his sub Anthony Grant nodded home a rather cruel winner: "I would certainly take winning 4-3 every game. It was certainly an entertaining game to watch.

"Crewe's front two were a handful for us, but fair play to my players; they showed fantastic spirit to win. We made a great start, but I couldn't believe it when we were 3-2 down.

"To go on and score another two goals was brilliant though and showed the character of the team to bounce back.

"It's very pleasing to score four goals away from home, especially as Crewe had won their last five matches here."
