Zola Will Be Important To Us
Steve Holland believes that his main signing of the summer Calvin Zola, will add a new dimension to his attack this season. The former Newcastle United Academy graduate joined the club from Tranmere Rovers this close season after the club successfully applied for a work permit.
Although the towering Congolese striker has never really been that prolific during his career in his career, he will certainly add an extra presence and ability in the air that has been lacking ever since the days of Rob Hulse and Dean Ashton. Finding those real target men is not easy, and Holland is understandably delighted with his acquisition.
Zola certainly made an early impression on the Crewe faithful, by scoring a hat-trick against Premier League newcomers Hull City and Holland feels there is more to come from the former Oldham man.
Steve told crewealex.net: "I think Calvin will make a real difference for us and really become an important player for us during the season.
"He made a terrific start with his hat-trick against Hull and maybe there were some who were expecting him to do the same against Preston the following week. We realistically looked at it and although Calvin didn't get on the score sheet, he was still in the box and forcing their goalkeeper to work.
"We cannot expect him to be like he was against Hull every week, but his presence has already made a difference to the way we play. I still think there is improvement to come from him and we are working hard with him to add more goals to his game."
You can meet Calvin and fellow new boy Joel before the game on Saturday, but only if you purchase a season ticket in the Wulvern Family Stand. Click here for more details.
