Oldham Performance Sparked Reaction
Steve Holland says our disappointing final performance of the season against Oldham Athletic remains the driving force behind his summer rebuilding programme. The club's first team coach is still hopeful of bringing in yet another five possible signings after completing the signing of up-and-coming goalkeeper Adam Legzdins on a free transfer from Birmingham.
Crewe Alexandra are prepared to invest this summer and our financial position could be further increased if we were to receive a suitable offer for the now available Danny Woodards and Gary Roberts.
Holland is beginning to reshape his own starting eleven and says he and his staff have been driven towards change due to our 4-1 home defeat to the Latics on the final day.
Steve told the club's official web-site: "That Oldham game is still very fresh in my memory. It will be in the back of my mind for most of the summer and if there is a positive to have come from it, it is that it has proved to be our driving force to make some key decisions.
"We know it wasn't good enough last season and that is why we are working as hard as anyone to try and bring in some better players and improve our team.
"We have accepted that our reliance on Nicky (Maynard) wasn't good enough and that is why we are looking for added firepower. We have identified a couple of strikers that would make a difference to us and we are close on one or two others.
"We don't want to be talking too much about who they are, because it can provoke activity someone else, but we are confident of landing some more to go with Adam (Legzdins) who joined earlier in the week."
