Crewe Alexandra's first team coach Steve Holland was hugely disappointed to see another 2-0 lead slip through our fingers at Whaddon Road. The Alex had put themselves firmly in the driving seats with relatively late goals from Simon Church and Ryan Lowe, but amazingly Cheltenham fought back to grab a point at the death thanks to fine strikes from full-back Alan Wright and David Bird.

From a strong position Crewe should have really gone on to claim our first away win of the season. One the plus side, the on-loan striker Simon Church scored his first senior goal for the club after some fine approach play from Byron Moore.

Holland was pleased with that aspect of our play, but we need to improve at the back if we are going to enter the top half of the league table.

After the thrilling 2-2 draw, Holland told us: "Byron did well for the goal. He carried the ball a long way before playing Simon in with a perfect pass. Simon took his goal very well and we are beginning to look something like we want to going forward.

"Simon has definitely given us something. He is full of energy and gives it all. We've been talking about him being a similar player to Rob Hulse in that he is whole-hearted and likes to run around.

"He has a bit of size and a presence as well which allows us to hit it a bit longer if needs be.

"He had opportunities in the first half which, with a bit more class, would have seen him get shots in on goal.

Steve added: "That was the question mark against him, that when he got into those good positions could he take a goal. The goal he scored was well taken and that's an encouraging sign for us to take into the next few weeks."
