A fine individual goal from Bournemouth winger Liam Feeney, five minutes into the second half here at the Fitness First Stadium ended Crewe's recent impressive run of three straight wins and three clean sheets. Feeney showed great pace to race through the heart of the Crewe defence and dispatch his shot past Adam Legzdins for the only goal of the game.

Feeney could and really should have been taking home the matchball this evening after also having two similar efforts on goal in the second half. With the score only 1-0, Crewe huffed and puffed all afternoon but couldn't find that breakthrough, although Anthony Elding did have the ball in the net after just 9 minutes, only for it to be ruled out for offside afer he had applied a touch to Calvin Zola's low shot.

Gudjon Thordarson made two changes to the side that recorded our first home win of the season against Hereford United last weekend. Anthony Elding and Clayton Donaldson returned to the starting line-up ahead of wingers Joel Grant and Byron Moore. Grant has been struggling with a slight groin problem but the injury was not severe enough to keep him from the substitutes bench.

Crewe Alexandra, who wore their new orange and white away strip for the first time had to survive an early corner following a slight slip by Harry Worley. Patrick Ada climbed highest to put off Bournemouth's captain Jason Pearce inside a crowded penalty area.

The on loan defender certainly made up for his early lapse of concentration by producing a fine tackle to halt Liam Feeney in his tracks, after the tricky winger had accelerated past Billy Jones.

Crewe then had the ball in the net after just 9 minutes after Anthony Elding touched a low shot from Calvin Zola home past Bournemouth's goalkeeper Shwan Jalal. For the second week running, Elding had his 'first goal' of the campaign ruled out for offside. The Alex celebrations were cut short once again, but the effort certainly increased the confidence in the Crewe camp. It was the visitors certainly on the ball and pressing forward more than the hosts.

Therefore, Bournemouth's best effort of the opening exchanges came somewhat out of the blue. Brett Pitman did superbly to control a pass from Joe Partington on his chest and he did not hesitate in turning and trying his luck from 30 yards out. Pitman was rather unlucky to see his dipping shot thud the Crewe Alexandra crossbar and rebound away to relative safety.

Shortly after that scare, Steven Schumacher whistled a powerful shot over the top of the crossbar from 25 yards and Bournemouth's Mark Molesley thumped a shot against Worley.

The match then had a short stoppage with Clayton Donaldson being caught close to the touchline. After receiving treatment from Rob Sharp, the Alex forward was able to continue but he collapsed in a heap a minute later and had to be replaced by Bryon Moore. The switch saw Elding move over to the right hand side of the front three.

That was quickly followed by another stoppage as Joe Partington received treatment for a knock on his lower back. Those interruptions in the game certainly took the sting out of the match for a while.

It livened up again just after the half an hour mark after Bradbury played in Pitman behind the Alex defence. Legzdins stood firm to save one handed and the covering Patrick Ada was able to complete the clearance from within our 6-yard box. Pitman looked the most likely player to open the scoring in the first half.

Patrick Ada had to prevent the same player having a clear run on goal after more good work from Bournemouth's most impressive player in the first period, Mark Molesley. The Crewe defender read the situation perfectly to toe poke the ball away from him from just inside the 6-yard box.

With the first half drawing to a close, it was Crewe under more pressure and wanting the referee's whistle. With the two stoppages for Donaldson, the Railwaymen had to see out three minutes, but comfortably weathered the storm.

In fact, it was Crewe conjuring up the best chance in stoppage time. In competing for possession, Zola fell to the ground but the loose ball fell invitingly out to Elding, who must have thought he had broken the deadlock when smashing the ball goalwards. Credit must go to Bournemouth's 'keeper Shwan Jalal who must have got his fingertips to it to sent it over the bar. The referee awarded a corner, so it must have been some save.

Crewe came out for the second half on the front foot. Schumacher saw his low shot blocked early on and then Worley shot wide as Bournemouth struggled to get out their own half.

A fine flowing move involving Zola and Elding resulted in Bournemouth's keeper Shwan pushing Elding dangerous looking cross away from the onrushing Moore.

With their first real attack of the second half, the home side went ahead on 50 minutes. A superb run from winger Liam Feeney saw him carry the ball some 30 yards, evade a lunging tackle from Mat Mitchel-King and place his shot past Legzdins in the Crewe goal.

It was an angled drive that gave the Crewe goalkeeper little chance of saving it. It was a fine individual goal that meant Crewe had to come from behind to rescue something from their trip to the south coast. It also ended Crewe's recent clean-sheet record. Crewe had gone some five and an hour hours without conceding a league goal.

With Crewe trying to get back into the game, they had captain Billy Jones and Aman Verma cautioned for late challenges. Molesley was booked for Bournemouth for a shirt pull on Brayford as he tried to escape his clutches. From the resulting free kick, Worley headed over Billy Jones' cross.

Verma soon left the play to be replaced by Joel Grant. Verma was on a knife-edge after being booked.

The electric Feeney nearly repeated the act that saw him open the scoring five minutes into the second half, with another blistering run through the heart of the Crewe defender. The pacey winger evaded a couple of challenges again to go through on goal but he screwed his 75th minute shot just wide of Legzdins' right hand post. It would have been a wonderful goal.

With 10 minutes remaining, Bournemouth made their first change of the afternoon with Joe Partington being replaced for Marvin Bartley. Crewe also took the opportunity to make a change with Shaun Miller replacing Schumacher. Mitchel-King moved into midfield.

With the match evenly poised, the excellent Ada blocked another effort from Pitman. At the other end, Zola headed a Billy Jones corner just over the bar. Moments later, Jalal again saved superbly to keep out a shot by Moore, after he had intelligently pulled away at the far post.

Feeney should have sealed the points for Bournemouth with just a minute left on the clock after they broke quickly from the edge of their box after Molesley had intercepted a pass from Grant. Bradbury switched play superbly to find Feeney in space but as Ada tried to recover, he shot wastefully over the bar.

Much to the annoyance of the home crowd, the fourth official then indicated five minutes of stoppage time. Much to their relieve they held out as Crewe pressed for a late, late reprieve.
