Crewe Alexandra boss Dario Gradi was pleased that his side enjoyed a superb 5-1 home win over Accrington Stanley. Crewe enjoyed their best result of the season but the Alex boss was not totally pleased with the overall performance.
Dario told crewealex.net: "I was amazingly tense through that game even thought we're safe, because we didn't play well. It was a scrappy game, but we defended well.
"Matt Tootle was a bit haywire at times but he was good overall and John Brayford was as well. He reads the game well and cuts out their chances of attacking. Patrick Ada was fine and so was Ashley Westwood and the goalkeeper did what he had to do.
"I didn't see the own goal, but Brayford was a bit unlucky by all accounts, it's just come off his shin. We picked up though, and although Danny Shelley had a poor first half, he picked up in the second half as well. Simon Walton I spoke to at half time and I said to him, what am I going to do with you, he came to me afterwards and said 'I told you I'd be ok.' He is a challenge but he does play and he does bring the ball down.
"In the end we did enough to win. Donaldson keeps getting into situations like that and he finished it well today, he doesn't always do that so it was good to see him do that. I'm pleased to see Joel get a goal as well, he deserved that after hitting the bar - but he needs to make and score more goals.
"Zola, his early goal wasn't very well hit but it went in. He was a threat and he got better as the game went on, he was winning his headers and he was decent.
Dario added: "That's three players we have in double figures now - and think what they could have had."
