Dario: We Train Like Crewe But Are Not Passing The Ball Like Crewe
After seeing his side surrender an early lead given to us by Shaun Miller, Dario Gradi told the club's official web-site: "I thought we started quite lively and scored a very good goal with a rare flick-on from Michael. Shaun got in and took his goal very well. When I took Shaun off the crowd were not too pleased about it and that is good, it means they like him and that he is doing well.
"I said that Shaun wasn't going to play 90 minutes today and then start against Brentford. It was important we gave him a rest and give Nicky Maynard some minutes under his belt.
"So we made a great start but continued to make too many mistakes. We didn't look like we were going to keep a clean sheet and we didn't create as many chances as we would have liked either. It was only after we brought Rodney on to go on the wing that we looked anything like we can do.
"Before that we were scooping and lobbing the ball forward expecting to have Michael up there and we were panicking with our passing. Good players like to get the ball all the time and pass it. At times, we were passing without even thinking or picking anyone out in particular."
Although disappointed with a disjointed display, Dario praised the spirit of Lee Richardson's side as they fought back to collect a vital three points in their quest for survival.
"They had the stomach for the fight and caused us problems. They worked really hard and we found it difficult to create any real chances against them. We know that Shaun, Nicky and Ryan can take a goal but they never really had a chance, especially in the second half.
"Chesterfield were good. They worked hard and can play a bit too. If they had had Maynard and Varney then the game would have been as good as over by half-time. We continue to train like Crewe but we are not playing like Crewe.
The boss added: "We are not passing the ball as we can do or have done in the past but we have managed to get to 52 points and we need to look at things and go again on Monday. One thing is for sure, I will change the personnel and look to freshen things up, with players like Maynard and Vaughan given more of an opportunity."
