Dave Brammer

Posted on: Fri 25 Jun 2010

Crewe Alexandra paid near neighbours Port Vale £500,000 for influential midfielder Dave Brammer back in the summer of 2001 and he would captain the Railwaymen back into the Championship in 2003 before leaving to join Stoke City on a Bosman free transfer in 2004. He is now running the Millwall midfield after joining the Lions in January 2007 on a free transfer.

Brammer made his Crewe debut as a second-half substitute against Grimsby on the opening day of the 2001/02 season and Dario later compared his midfield influence to that of our former great Neil Lennon.

Dave joined the Vale for a club record fee of £500,000 on deadline day 1999 from Wrexham and became a fundamental part of Brian Horton's Second Division side, which went on to life the LDV Vans Trophy in 2001 before his move to Gresty Road.

His only set-back during his time at Crewe was his injuries. He suffered groin and hamstring trouble, which seemed to be rectified before his move to join rivals Stoke City.

Bramm spent just under three years with the Potters, making over 100 league appearances before joining Millwall in January 2007. He would continue to commute to the captial from his Cheshire base and it wasn't too long before that journey became a little tiresome and he rejoined his former club Port Vale on a play-as-play basis after briefly training with us here at Crewe to regain his fitness.

He currently spends his time working with local radio stations and media work, whilst he also put in for the position of Manager at local club Nantwich Town.
