Youngster takes award

Northern Ireland Milk Cup

Crewe Alexandra youngster Alex Titchener will bring home some silverware from the Milk Cup having collected the Junior Sections Golden Boot Award.

The teenage forward was one of Crewe's hero's as they finished 3rd in the Junior Sections BT Trophy, scoring six goals in total plus one more in the Quarter Final penalty shoot-out triumph over Cherry Orchard.

Titchener started the competition with a brace in the Railwaymen's 4-0 group thrashing of County Fermanagh and then proved to be the man to drag the Alex back into the game in the Quarter Final of the BT Trophy.

With Crewe trailing 2-0 to Cherry Orchard, Titchener scored just before half-time to give the Alex a chance, and then levelled the game in second half stoppage time to force a penalty shoot out. He was then one of four successful players to score from the spot.

Titchener ended the competition by bagging another brace, this time against County Londonderry in the 3rd/4th placed play-off which saw the Railwaymen win 4-0.

Titchener becomes the second Crewe player in as many years to leave Northern Ireland with a prestigious trophy after midfielder Ashley Westwood was named as the Tournaments most valuable player in 2005.

Everyone at the Football Club would like to congratulate Alex, who was presented with his award at Friday evenings closing ceremony, for his success in the competition.
