Crewe through after pen drama

Northern Ireland Milk Cup

Crewe Alexandra's Under-14's are in the Semi Final of the Milk Cup's BT Trophy, having produced a stunning fightback this afternoon.

Having missed out on the main Milk Cup draw following defeat against Dundalk SL in yesterday's final group game, Steve Holland's youngsters appeared to be heading for more disappointment in the BT Trophy as they fell two goals behind in the early stages of their Quarter Final clash with Cherry Orchard.

Slowly however, the young Railwaymen fought their way back into the game, and a goal by Alex Titchener, his third of the Tournament, just before half time gave the Alex some real hope.

Despite a spirited second half display Crewe still looked to be heading out as the Irish side held on until two minutes into stoppage time Titchener was the hero again as he burst through the opposition defence to fire home the equaliser.

The game went to a penalty shoot-out as Cherry Orchard had no time to respond, and up stepped trialist goalkeeper Darragh Soley, who proved to be another hero in waiting.

Soley saved two of Orchard's spot kicks whilst Grant Healy, Rob Evans, Harry Davis and that man Titchener all kept their nerve from the spot to give the Alex a 4-2 win.

Crewe will now play Irish side Belvedere at the Rugby Showgrounds in Coleraine tomorrow afternoon as they bid for a place in the final.
