Crewe Alexandra academy coach Neil Critchley has told of his delight of having three of our under 18 boys called up for England for an Under 17 tournament later this month.
Max Clayton, who has just returned from winning the Nordic title in Finland, Nick Powell who recently made his first team debut, and Ben Garratt who has earned his first call up all link up with their national side next week.
On hearing the news, everyone at Crewe Alexandra was understandably delighted, as Neil explains; "We've got the three boys going away with England at the end of the month, which is such a lift it's fantastic.
"There aren't many clubs at our level that can say they have three boys being involved in England duty."
Having known the boys for a number of years as they have progressed through the academy ranks, Neil, James Collins and Dario Gradi are all likely to take their seats at the game which take place in Grimsby, Scunthorpe and Lincoln watching with pride along with the boys friends and families. It's an experience that they can enjoy and benefit from in the future.
Neil continues: "Max enjoyed every minute of the Nordic tournament, Nick always enjoys going away with England and for Ben to be called up for the first time, it's going to be exciting for him. They always learn such a lot, and these games are real experiences for them - playing against different countries, international teams and players."
"The boys have been here a long time, since they were 6,7 or 8, and it's a real testament to the work that's been done with them. When they turn out for England it's such a proud moment for them, their family, the club and such a tremendous achievement."
