Collins Looks Foward To Cambridge Test

Posted on: Thu 22 Nov 2007

One of Crewe Alexandra's Academy Managers James Collins has told Crewe Alex World how he and everyone associated with the club can't wait to kick off in tonight's big game in the FA Youth Cup.

The boys travel down south this evening hoping not to suffer the same fate as they did in the same place in last year's competition. Cambridge United are a strong side and Collins and the coaching staff know that they need to be on top of their game to proceed to the third round at Aston Villa but they are going to go out enjoy themselves and with the confidence in camp the rest will take care of itself.

James says: "The boys know everyday they are out there that they have to prove themselves and look to improve to get in the side, they all want to play obviously because games like these are big games for them and they enjoy them.

The boys are really up for the game, they enjoy the professionalism of the Youth Cup, the pre-match meals, the coach and the trip, they feel like the first team, it's nice for them and good preparation for them too. They are on a high at the moment, they have had a good win, a couple of days off and have been preparing properly for the game."

As with every game Crewe Alex play, a lot of work is done behind the scenes in preparation for the game and tonight's game is no different. James and Neil Critchley have watched the game from last year and have watched the opposition for tonight in the last round and so know what to expect, as do the boys as most of them featured in the same fixture last time around and are ready to put right that result.

James told Crewe Alex World: "The team we played against were really up for the game last year and were flying into tackles and our lads weren't used to that, I think they are know, most of the lads played in the game last year and I wouldn't have thought complacency would come into it this year. They have really worked hard on that, they have their memories and they know what to expect this time around.

"We have watched Cambridge and they are pretty similar to last year and I think they will prepare for the game in the same way.

"We went to watch them in the last round against Hemel Hempstead, which was a similar game to ours at Ashton, they won comfortably and they passed the ball around nicely. I think it will be a little bit different with us, they will probably look to get after us a bit more. Critch and I watched the DVD of the game from last year that Steve leant us and we pretty much know what to expect there."

You can listen to James' full preview on Crewe Alex World now and hear their full post-match reaction on the game tomorrow.
