Man United U18s 0 - 2 Crewe Alex U18's
It was a fantastic day for the Under 18's a couple of weeks ago, whilst the first team and all staff and supporters enjoyed the Family Fun Day here at the Alexandra Stadium the Crewe Alexandra Academy enjoyed an afternoon at Manchester United to continue their form this season.
The boys have lost just two games in nine so far, but during their trip North they became the first team to score at Manchester United since the opening day of the season.
Although United started the game well, almost taking the lead within the first few minutes it was Crewe that opened the scoring. United's effort beat keeper Jack Baker but was kept on the right side of the line by hitting the post and rolling down the goal line before it was sent to safety. On the 15th minute mark Crewe took the lead after Chris Clements sent the ball into the line of Josh Thompson who collected perfectly to score his fourth goal of the season.
United came close to bringing the scores level once more just before the break but Crewe stepped up the game in the second half, Ashley Westwood hitting the crossbar with a stunning 25 yard shot that almost made it 2-0.
In their efforts to steal a point Manchester United threw on their maximum substitutions, which very nearly paid off for them as they had a shot hit the post in stoppage time. A fine victory for our youngsters who then made the trip back to South Cheshire having got the better of United.
