Crewe's youth got back to a winning start again this weekend with a 1-0 victory over visitors Barnsley.

Crewe had a handful of chances in the first half of the game with shots hitting all parts of the goal except the back of the net, Tom Lappin having a good chance after just 10 minutes when his head got on the end of a free kick but his effort was sent just inches wide. A great ball from Luke Murphy which Chris Clements played into the box gave Charlie Ager another chance that just missed the post.

Barnsley were not without their chances in the first 45 minutes but with some fantastic defending they were forced to back away from the box.

The second half started well with some great chances to take the lead, Crewe were pushing forward with a much more attacking mind. Luke Murphy once again showing some great skill as he took the ball down the middle of the pitch into the box and around two of Barnsley's players but he just couldn't claim the finish he wanted as his shot was sent wide.

It was a strong second half from Crewe as they stepped up the pace, Chris Clements making a good run similar to that of Murphy earlier in the game, as he dodged players to send a good shot into the side netting. With only 10 minutes remaining on the clock, Crewe were throwing everything into their game, Chris Clements put Crewe ahead with only five minutes to go with a stunning shot. A 20 yard dodged all players blocking and hit the top corner, a fantastic finish.

As the game was drawing to a close, Barnsley continued to fight back forcing Crewe keeper Marcus Cooper to stretch to save their effort to equalise.

An end to a game that could have seen Crewe win by a larger score line but a fantastic comeback following the defeat at Nottingham Forest.
