Steve Davis hoping derby result will ignite our season

Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis is hoping that a positive performance and result in the first derby clash of the season could finally get our league season up and running.

The Railwaymen are searching for their first league points of the season and Davis is hoping that an early season clash with Port Vale could provide the perfect tonic. Crewe Alexandra actually lost last season’s corresponding fixture at Gresty Road by two goals to one, but the spirited performance certainly gave us a substantial lift back in November.

Ahead of this weekend’s eagerly anticipated derby clash, Steve told the club’s official web-site: “Hopefully the Vale game will prove a turning point for us. Hopefully it will give us a spring into a different set of results.

“When you have been on a losing run you want to put it right and there is nothing like a derby for that. I love a derby game. As a player I adored the build-up, the atmosphere of the day and if the result comes off, the pride of having got one over your close neighbours. I can’t wait.

He added: “We have to get through this situation together. We’ll need the fans on Saturday and I’m sure they will sing their hearts out like they did for us last season, when the atmosphere was one of the best I’ve ever experienced.”
