Leeds started the game on top and forced Kieran Harrison into two smart saves, but the game changed on the half-hour mark when The Alex were awarded a penalty.
The Whites keeper saved Saunders' spot-kick, but Callum reacted quickest to tuck in the rebound.
Into the second half and a rejuvenated Crewe doubled their advantage on 53 minutes, Saunders grabbing his second of the game finishing low into the corner.
