U21: Crewe 3-1 Leeds

3 March 2016

Under 21's record second straight home victory

Crewe Alexandra Under 21's bounced straight back to winning ways with a 3-1 victory over Leeds United in a rearranged clash at Reaseheath.

Joe Kearns and Owen Dale goals early in the second-half, either side of a Lewis Walters response for Leeds, put The Alex in front before Charlie Kirk slotted home a penalty a minute from time.

The first-half failed to take alight, despite Kirk going close for Crewe after a good team move, and Ronaldo Viera firing a thunderous effort over the top for Leeds just before the whistle.

But what the first half lacked, the second period more than made up for. Within the first minute, left-back Kearns had ghosted down the wing and cut inside on his right-foot before curling a beaut into the corner for 1-0.

Just seven minutes later and Leeds were level with a similarly fantastic finish. Winger Tom Lyman sprayed a driven cross over to Lewis Walters on the angle from 18-yards and he crashed a beautifully timed volley across Dave Richards and into the far corner.

Possibility still celebrating the goal, Leeds were behind again straight from the kick-off, opportunist striker Owen Dale breaking into the box and gobbling up his opportunity to get on the score sheet.

As the half wore on, Leeds pushed for an equaliser but The Alex stood firm, and when Kirk broke into the box on 89 minutes, his cut-back was destined for Dale before the Whites defender clattered the striker. Kirk stepped up to the spot & side-footed his effort to the keeper's left, squeezing it under the despairing dive to seal the three points.

Crewe: Richards, Ng, Kearns, Davis (Neal, 56), Ray (Mullarkey, 45), Bingham (Finney, 45), Howell, Ainley, Lowery, Kirk, Dale
