Lunt has been without many of his core squad in recent weeks due to first team involvement, but his young side put that behind them to record victory thanks to Owen Dale (2) and Harry Pickering goals.

The Owls took the lead in the first-half after a mistake at the back, but Crewe bounced back – Dale rifling in from close range after a good run from right-back Jamie Morgan.

Pickering put The Alex ahead after the break in bizarre fashion, his left-wing free-kick evading everyone in the box before finding its way into the far corner.

That lead was extended to 3-1 when an Owls defender handled Dale’s free-kick in the area, allowing the striker to smash in his second of the game from the penalty spot.

Wednesday fought back and managed to squeeze in a scrappy second, but Lunt’s lads held firm to see out the game and leave with the points.
