U18: Charlton 1-0 Crewe

7 March 2016

Controversial goal sinks Crewe in the Capital

Crewe Alexandra Under 18's fell victim to a highly controversial goal to lose 1-0 against Charlton Athletic in London.

It looked as though Kenny Lunt's side have doggedly defended a point against the high-flying U18 PDL South high-flyers, only for the strike to snatch all three points for the Addicks.

A long ball had sailed through to goalkeeper Jake Hilton, with the linesman raising his flag for offside. The Alex keeper laid the ball down outside the box to his defender to take the free-kick, only for a Charlton attacker to steam in, rob possession, round Hilton & slot into the empty net.

Despite the confusion, the referee allowed the goal to stand as he had allegedly indication Hilton to play on, ignoring the call from his assistant.

Crewe fought back in search of an equaliser, but it was Charlton's turn to defend well and they saw out the game for the points.

Crewe: Hilton, Woodcock, Dowsett, Wilkinson, Neal, Morgan, Quinn, Lundstram, Walley, Dale, Higham
