Toots: "Time To Deliver"

17 April 2014

Captain Matt Tootle ready for Easter challenge to keep our fate in our hands.

Captain Matt Tootle says that now is the time for Crewe Alexandra to produce some real consistency in the final four games of the season. Crewe travel to Shrewsbury on Good Friday before facing fellow strugglers Colchester United on Monday, and a points’ return will be essential if we are to escape the drop.

Tootle has certainly led by example this season and has proved to be an excellent stand-in captain when Abdul Osman has been left out or injured. The right-back is annoyed that the Railwaymen have failed to produce that real consistent run that would have seen us above the drop zone and in the safety of mid-table like last season.

Ahead of the trip to the Greenhous Meadow, Tootle told Crewe Alex Player: “We have been too inconsistent this season and that is why we are where we are in the league.

“We have seemed to have won one, lost one on too many occasions and have only got back-to-back wins twice. With Shrewsbury and Colchester over Easter now is the ideal time to have a third one.

“We have four games left and we may have to win three of them to be safe. We have to go and do ourselves and make sure we are not relying on other people to do us a favour.

“The lads are taking it one game at a time. It’s Shrewsbury up next and we know that it is a massive game for both clubs. It is always a bit of a derby atmosphere and we will be well supported there.

He added: “We want to keep our fate in our own hands and that means getting a result there. We have to rise to the occasion and play as well as we have done on the road of late.”
