An emotional Matt Tootle pays tribute to his mate Adam Dugdale after Cup win

Matt Tootle has told the club's official web-site that he was desperate to make sure he helped Crewe lift the Johnstone's Paint Trophy in memory of the newborn son of close friend Adam Dugdale and his partner Nicola.

Tootle, who is closer to Duggy than other member of the Crewe squad told crewealex.net: "It has been an emotional time for me and what Adam and Nicola have had to deal with this past week has put everything into perspective in the build up to the game. I massively wanted to come here and win the Cup for him and Nicola.

"We had to come here and win it for Duggy. The most important thing was that we won the game. It wasn't so much about the performance, I did okay but I am just glad we that we did it for him and Nicola after everything they went through and are going through. That it what I wanted to do for them and we did it.

"The fans were brilliant and it was fitting that we scored the opening goal in the sixth minute. All the fans, including the ones from Southend were involved on twitter in the build up to the game and they were fantastic as well, so I would like to thank them as well."
