Captain unlikely to be risked after picking up a slight knock

It was a great boost to see club captain Matt Tootle return to the first-team squad for the first time since October away at Peterborough in mid-week, but after receiving a slight knock on his ankle during the club’s Under-21 game against Sheffield Wednesday, he is unlikely to be risked tomorrow against Walsall.

Tootle has endured a really frustrating season after suffering with a recurring ankle problem and he has worked exceeding hard to make himself available for the run-in and this slight set-back is certainly untimely for Toots and boss Steve Davis who was eager to use one of his most experienced players in the remaining games.

Steve explained the latest slight set-back to the club’s official web-site: “Matt is desperate to get back and play some part and it was great to have back and involved on Tuesday night. Just to have him back in the squad and on the bench was a lift.

“To be fair to him he played again for the Under-21s on Wednesday and his ankle is still not 100%. We will continue to assess him and be careful with him because he has missed a lot of football. If he can play a part then that would be a bonus but we have to remember that he has been out for a long time now.”
