Chairman John Bowler says foundations in place to learn and improve for next season.

Chairman John Bowler says it will be a closed season of re-examining everything in the club after Crewe Alexandra survived in League One on the final day of the season. The club’s Chairman who received the MBE from Prince William at Buckingham Palace yesterday says there is room for improvement right across the board.

The Chairman told Crewe Alex Player: “We were obviously delighted, for a club like us you could argue that League One is like the old Championship.

“We know that it’s a difficult battle but we were not happy with what happened last year and those are the things that we have got to improve on.

“It was relief that we can hopefully learn, move on and enjoy next season.

“At the heart of what we do is youth development, we’re proud of that investment and these young players need to play League One football.

“From our point of view, being in League One is a good shop window for them to be in because we always recognise this club requires us to sell players from time to time.

John added: “The teams we’re playing, the gates we can get, the enjoyment of League One opposition, it’s great to be there and it’s a stage you don’t want to be off.”
