The Fight For Shirts Is On

28 August 2015

Steve Davis says the fight for shirts is well and truly on after adding two quality loanees.

Steve Davis says that the loan signing of Harry Wilson from Liverpool will not be to the detriment of our own young players such as Ryan Colclough, George Cooper and Callum Saunders.

Crewe have taken the highly-rated Wilson to provide a platform for him to gain experience of a different environment but Davis stresses that only his performances will guarantee a place in his starting line-up.

Davis has wanted to add cover and competition in the forward areas and has brought in Wilson to provide that challenge to our own.

Steve told crewealex.net: “Harry has come here to add competition to the squad and I don’t think that is the detrimental to the other players because we want to create that competitive environment.

“Harry coming in will only compliment the others we have here and he knows he will have to play well to break into the team and stay there. It is the same for everyone. Brad and Ryan have done well lately and deserve their place but they know they have perform well to keep the shirt. That is how it should be in football and we have that in every position now.

“It won’t stop players getting their opportunities. Harry is a different type of player to Callum (Saunders) who is more of a goal poacher. It is wrong to compare them because they are different types.

He added: “Harry can play various roles up front and he does give us some versatility. He gives us more options and only adds quality to the squad and that is why we were keen to do it when the opportunity came.”
