Steve: "Hard Fought Point"

8 September 2012

Steve gives us his reaction after 0-0 draw at Gresty Road.

After Crewe Alexandra shared a goalless draw for the first time in 58 league matches, the Alex boss Steve Davis told the club’s official web-site: “I didn’t think it was a drab 0-0 draw, but there was no one on top of their game, or clinical enough to get the goal we needed. When our four front players were not as good as they have been it is important not to lose the game and I was pleased with the way we defended.

“We managed to keep a clean-sheet against the club at the top of the league, so I was pleased with that aspect of the day. I was pleased for the back four and the goalkeeper Alan Martin because it is another clean-sheet for them.

“Again it was a decent performance against a team that is unbeaten in the league and that comes on the back of beating Coventry here, so we are heading in the right direction. What I said to the players is that they have to take that home form into the away games.

“What we have to do now is build on how we have defended but become a threat at the other end as well. I thought our best bet for a goal was going to come from a free-kick or set play but our delivery was poor today. We didn’t hit the players or the areas we needed to so we will be practicing that next week.

“Max started brightly and can be a match winner for us, he can produce something for us to win us the game. He said he was fine before but I just felt he needed a rest because it was a high tempo game compared to an England Youth game.

“We are not too sure about Harry (Bunn) at the moment and the extent of the damage. I think he landed funny and locked his knee. Hopefully it is not too bad and I cannot really comment on it at the moment. He will have an X-Ray and see from there, but hopefully it isn’t as bad as it looked.

He added: “Losing Harry now means we will go back and have a look a the loan market because Pogs is still two weeks away.“
