Steve: "Surprised By Lack Of Interest"

30 May 2013

Steve Davis says he has been suprised by a lack of interest thus far in his young players

Steve Davis has admitted that he has been surprised by the lack of interest in some of his young players.

The Crewe Alexandra manager has stressed that it is quiet at this time of the summer, but he would have thought that the success we have enjoyed over the last 12 months and the progress made by Ash Westwood and Nick Powell at Premier League clubs would have placed some of our promising players on a wanted list.

Steve told crewealex.net : “We haven’t had any inquiries about any of our players and I must admit that has surprised me a bit, when you consider the last year we have had.

“We have gone up through the play-offs, won the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy and finished mid-table, so people have seen the progress the players here have made.

“It is still a quiet period. Managers and staff could be away on holiday and others could be finalising budgets and assessing what they need.

“The contracts of players do not expire until June, so it is still early. The scouts have come to watch us, so I’m sure there will be interest somewhere. “
